18650—the number designated to a specifically-sized rechargeable battery used in vaping; 18650 batteries are arguably the most common type of removable cell required for e-cigarettes and vaporizers.

20700—the number designated to a specifically-sized rechargeable battery used in vaping; slightly larger than an 18650 battery.

21700—the number designate to a specifically-sized rechargeable battery used in vaping; slightly wider than a 20700 battery.

26650—the number designated to a specifically-sized rechargeable battery used in vaping; wider than a 21700 battery.

Adapter—a piece that allows connection or use between two incompatible parts; e.g., an eGo/510 adapter or an 18650 battery adapter.

Adjustable Airflow—vent holes on a vape tank that can be varied in order to achieve the preferred level of air passing through the coil.

All Day Vape (ADV)—an e-liquid that is flavourful, yet subtle enough to vape all day long.

Amps (A)—a unit of measurement indicating the electromagnetic force between electrical conductors in a current.

Atomizer—the part of an e-cigarette that is heated to create vapour, often referring to the coil housing, the coil itself, and the wick.

Battery—the cell that powers an e-cigarette. It can be internal (built into the device) or removeable.

Battery Cutoff—a safety feature that will shut off the battery’s current after a set period of time.

Box Mod—a battery section of a vape that is often cuboid in shape; normally bulkier than a pen vape.

Cartomizer—a disposable vape tank that uses polyfill wick to draw e-liquid to the atomizer.

Cartridge—a removable vape tank, similar to a pod or cartomizer.

Ceramic—a material sometimes used to house vape coils because of its ability to evenly distribute heat.

Charger—a device or cable that allows a battery to increase in charge.

Cigalike—an e-cigarette that mimics the size, shape, and performance of a tobacco cigarette; a slim pen vape, often buttonless.

Clapton Coil—a coil with a thick wire core wrapped with a thinner wire, similar to a guitar string; known for providing excellent flavour.

Clearomizer—a tank that contains an atomizer and a clear reservoir to display the e-liquid level.

Clone—an item that is specifically created to deceitfully resemble a name-brand product.

Closed-system Pod—a pod unit that is prefilled and cannot be refilled with e-liquid.

Cloud—the vapour exhaled after inhaling from an e-cigarette or vape.

Cloud Chaser—a person who enjoys creating large clouds of vapour.

Coil—the section of an e-cigarette comprising of a wrapped wire that heats to vaporize e-liquid.

Cotton—the material most commonly used as a wick to absorb e-liquid and draw it to a vape coil.

Direct to Lung (DTL)—a style of e-cigarette or vape tank where a moderate to large amount of vapour is drawn directly into the lungs all at once.

Disposable—an item that is meant to be thrown away once it has been used.

DIY—”Do It Yourself”; the act of personally building or creating an item; often used to describe at-home e-liquid or coil production.

Draw—the inhale from an e-cigarette or vape.

Dripping—the act of applying e-liquid directly onto the coil and wick of an e-cigarette atomizer.

Drip Tip—a part commonly used as a mouthpiece on an e-cigarette or vape; used to drip e-liquid through onto an RDA.

Dry Burn—to heat an e-cigarette coil without any e-liquid or wick applied, often to clean or reconfigure the atomizer’s coils.

Dry Herb Vaporizer—a device used to heat dried flower products to the point of vaporization.

Dry Hit—an inhale from an e-cigarette where the coil has not been fully saturated, resulting in an irritating, burnt flavour.

Dual Coil—an atomizer that allows for two coils to be installed and run simultaneously.

E-cigar—an e-cigarette that is designed to mimic the look and feel of a cigar.

E-cigarette—a device used to vaporize nicotine or non-nicotine e-liquid; an alternative to tobacco smoking.

E-juice—a liquid used to saturate the wick of an e-cigarette coil, often created using propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, food-grade flavourings, and nicotine (if selected).

Fire—the act of engaging an e-cigarette or vape’s battery to heat the coil.

Fire Button—the button used to engage an e-cigarette or vape’s battery.

Fixed Airflow—the vent holes on an e-cigarette or vape tank that cannot be adjusted.

Flavour—a word used to describe the taste of different e-liquids, produced by adding food-grade natural and artificial flavourings to vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol.

Flooding—a case where too much e-liquid is absorbed by the coil, creating an excess of liquid within the coil chamber; often followed by leaking or spitback.

Grub Screw—a part commonly used in rebuildable devices (RBAs, RTAs, RDAs, RDTAs) to secure coils into the atomizer posts; includes an internal wrenching drive (most often Allen, Robertson, or Slot) to allow for tightening.

Gurgling—the sound produced when a coil is flooded with e-liquid; can graduate to leaking or spitback if left unchecked.

High Resistance—the property of a coil that does not allow the easy passage of electrons; creates a relatively small amount of cooler vapour.

Hot Spot—an area of a vape coil that produces more heat than others.

Inhale—the act of breathing in vapour from an e-cigarette or vaporizer.

Kanthal Wire—a long, thin piece of metal made from various alloys; the most common material used in factory-made vape coils.

Leaking—an instance where e-liquid seeps through an opening it is not supposed to, commonly through an airflow hole or broken seal.

Lithium-Ion Battery—a rechargeable power cell where lithium ions moves from the negative electrode to the positive electrode while discharging, and the opposite while charging.

Low Resistance—the property of a coil that allows the easy passage of electrons; creates a relatively large amount of warmer vapour.

mAh (Milliampere Hours)—the unit of measurement indicating a battery’s energy storage per hour.

Mechanical Mod—a device that works by directing the raw power from a battery cell to the atomizer; an unregulated device.

mg (Milligrams)—the unit of measurement indicating the strength of an e-liquid’s nicotine concentration per milliliter.

Mod—the component of a vape that contains the battery cell and directs power to the coil or heating chamber.

Mouthpiece—the part of an e-cigarette or vaporizer that you draw vapour from (sometimes referred to as a drip tip).

Mouth to Lung (MTL)—a style of e-cigarette or tank that allows for a two-stage inhale: initially pulling the vapour into the mouth, and then subsequently inhaling it into the lungs.

Nichrome (NiCr) Wire—a long, thin piece of metal made from nickel, chromium, and sometimes other alloys.

Nickel (Ni) Wire—a long, thin piece of metal made from nickel and sometimes other alloys.

Nic—a nickname for nicotine.

Nicotine—an addictive stimulant that can be found in tobacco leaves and nicotine e-liquid.

Nicotine Level/Concentration—the amount of nicotine contained in an e-liquid; often expressed in mg (milligrams) per milliliter, or as a percentage.

Non-nic—a substance that does not contain nicotine.

O-ring—a rubber gasket used to create a seal between two or more parts; in vaping, o-rings are commonly used to create an air-tight seal in an e-liquid tank or atomizer.

Ohm—the unit of measurement used to express the resistance of a coil.

Open-system Pod—a pod unit that can be refilled with e-liquid.

Parallel—a term used to describe a circuit with more than one battery where the cells are discharged simultaneously, rather than one after the other.

Pass-through—a word to describe an e-cigarette that can be used while charging through a cable, most commonly micro USB.

Pod—a removable unit that includes a reservoir and heating element; pods can be prefilled (closed-system) or refillable (open-system).

Pod Vape—an e-cigarette or vaporizer that uses an open- or closed-system reservoir unit that includes a built-in heating coil.

Propylene Glycol (PG)—a thin substance used in e-liquid to produce a throat hit and provide flavour.

Priming—the act of saturating a coil before submerging it into its tank or heating it; priming allows for more even e-liquid absorption, extends the coil’s lifespan, and helps to avoid dry hits.

Puff—an inhale from an e-cigarette.

Rebuildable Atomizer (RBA)—an atomizer that contains a section to install custom coils and wick.

Regulated Mod—a vape that contains a circuit board, which controls the electrical flow coming from the battery, prevents electrical shorts, and can sometimes allow for adjustable power settings.

Resistance—the factor that indicates the ease with which electrons can pass through a wire coil in a circuit, expressed in ohms(Ω).

RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer)—an atomizer that allows for the manual installation of custom coils and wick, which are exposed to enable the direct application of e-liquid.

RDTA (Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizer)—an atomizer that allows for the manual installation of custom coils and wick. Coils are exposed to enable the direct application of e-liquid to the wick and coils, but the atomizer also contains a bottom reservoir to assist with subsequent resaturation.

RTA (Rebuildable Tank Atomizer)—an atomizer that allows for the manual installation of custom coils and wick, but is used inside a traditional tank reservoir for saturation (not exposed for dripping).

Series—a term used to describe a circuit with more than one battery, where the cells are discharged one at a time, rather than simultaneously.

Spitback—the occurrence of e-liquid shooting up through the e-cigarette’s chimney/mouthpiece and into the mouth of the user; spitback is often a symptom to flooding.

Squonk—a vape device that allows for e-liquid to be forced from a flexible bottle housed inside of the mod up through the connection pin and into the coil’s wick to enable easy coil saturation; requires a tank with a sqonk pin.

Stainless Steel (SS) Wire—a long, thin piece of metal made from stainless steel.

Starter Kit—an e-cigarette or herbal vaporizer that is recommended for beginners, usually because of its simplicity.

Stealth Vaping—the act of using an e-cigarette inconspicuously. Some devices have a built-in “Stealth Mode” option that will allow it to fire without showing any lights or displays.

Steeping—the act of allowing e-liquid to develop under specific conditions in order to enhance or diminish the blend or strength of its flavour.

Sub-ohm—a term used to describe a coil with a resistance lower than 1.0Ω.

Tank—a component of an e-cigarette that contains a refillable reservoir and a heating element or coil.

Temperature Control (TC)—a feature that allows you to adjust the maximum temperature a coil will reach; can only be used with TC-compatible metals.

Threading—the helical ridge engraved onto a screw or other part of a vape to allow for secure attachment.

Throat Hit—the harsh yet satisfying sensation in the back of the throat created by inhaling nicotine, propylene glycol, or menthol flavouring.

Titanium (Ti) Wire—a long, thin piece of metal made from titanium.

Top Cap—the uppermost lid of a vape that closes off the reservoir; normally removable to allow for top filling.

Unregulated Mod—a vape that does not have a circuit board, and cannot manage the power coming from the battery; carries a risk of damage, fire, or explosion if Ohm’s law is not followed.

USB Charger—a cord that allows charging through a USB port.

Vape Tricks—shapes, designs, and displays made with exhaled vapour.

Vaper—a person who partakes in vaping, using an e-cigarette or vaporizer.

Vaper’s Tongue—a term used to describe the desensitization of the palate after vaping the same or similar e-liquid flavours over a period of time.

Vaping—the act of using an e-cigarette or vaporizer.

Vaporizer—a term used to describe an electronic herbal heating device, or sometimes an e-cigarette.

Vapour—the smoke-like aerosol produced by an e-cigarette or vaporizer.

Vegetable Glycerin (VG)—a viscous liquid often used in e-liquid that promotes smoothness and high vapour production.

Variable Voltage (VV)—a term used to describe an e-cigarette or vape device in which the voltage can be adjusted to the user’s preference.

Variable Wattage (VW)—a term used to describe an e-cigarette or vape device in which the wattage can be adjusted to the user’s preference.

Volt—the unit used to indicate the electrical potential between two points of an circuit.

Watt—the unit used to indicate the amount of energy being transferred through a circuit.

Wick—a material used to absorb e-liquid and direct it towards a coil.

Wire—a long, thin strip of metal used to wind into a coil or heating element.

Wrap—the act of winding a wire around a jig; each wind around the jig is considered one wrap.
