The 180 Take: Vuse 'Drop the Pod' Recycling Program in Effect - 180 Smoke

The 180 Take: Vuse ‘Drop the Pod’ Recycling Program in Effect

Sep 9, 2022 | Vaping News

While making the switch from smoking to vaping is a significant step for most smokers, it’s one that shouldn’t sacrifice sustainability for a smoke-free lifestyle.

With that in mind, 180 Smoke is excited to announce that Vuse’s safe disposal program — Drop the Pod — is now available at all 180 Smoke Vape Store locations. Customers purchasing Vuse products will be provided with a resealable bag to dispose of used pods in, which can then be returned to any store location for recycling. Note, old ePod devices will also be accepted, but should be returned separate from the bag.

The ‘Drop the Pod’ Process

What happens then? At that point, the pods are delivered to a treatment facility where they are shredded, and any remaining e-liquid is collected. The pod elements go through a waste-to-energy incineration process that converts all the waste that could potentially end up in a landfill into steam for electricity production, while the liquid is blended with flammable fluids and sent to a cement plant where it is used as fuel in cement production.

Old ePod devices are sent to a Vuse partner treatment facility. Once received, the devices are manually separated, and dismantling is performed to prepare for shredding. Mixed commodities such as plastic, aluminum, and batteries are collected, and the remaining is shredded. Leftover material that was not removed at the sorting station is then pulverized and fed through a magnetic separator, and the aluminum is recovered as an end product. The collected metal is sent to a smelter, where it is transformed into raw material to manufacture new products.

What are your thoughts on this process, and is it something you think you’ll take advantage of? Let us know on our socials, which are listed in the footer below.
