Developed as an alternative to traditional tobacco products, IQOS utilizes sophisticated electronics and intelligent design to reimagine the way people consume nicotine. Instead of relying on combustion, which produces fire, ash, and smoke, IQOS devices heat specially designed tobacco sticks to 350°C utilizing heat-not-burn technology. This precise heating generates a flavourful nicotine-containing vapor, while also releasing a more nuanced taste of heated tobacco.
As with any new technology, there may be some questions and concerns over the effects of the device, along with its potential as an alternative nicotine delivery system. Thankfully, we’ve compiled a basic FAQ that should help answer any questions you may have about this novel new product.

Where can I purchase/use an IQOS?
While there is no global standard on where consumers can use and purchase IQOS devices, it is always best to check with local regulations before attempting to purchase or use an IQOS device.
In Canada, consumers can purchase IQOS products at certain 180 Smoke Vape Store locations, or at a registered IQOS dealer. Much like e-cigarettes, IQOS products are governed by Bill S-5, also known as the Tobacco and Vaping Products Act, meaning they can only be used in designated areas where smoking is also allowed.
What temperature does the IQOS use to heat tobacco?
While traditional cigarettes require some sort of combustion of about 600°C, flaring to over 800°C when a smoker takes a puff, IQOS devices only subject to temperatures below 350° C. This temperature helps avoid burning, while still allowing the nicotine to be released from natural tobacco.
What am I inhaling when using IQOS?
The technology used by IQOS ensures that tobacco is carefully heated to generate a tobacco aerosol that is distinctly different than the smoke generated from a combustible cigarette. Because there is no combustion, the tobacco aerosol produced by IQOS contains a reduced amount of harmful substances when compared to a cigarette. That being said, there are still some risks associated with using IQOS and the best way to reduce tobacco-related health risks is to simply stop using tobacco products.
How do I use an IQOS device?
Remove the IQOS holder from the pocket charger.
Insert your HEATSTCK into the IQOS holder up to the silver line.
Hold the heating button for 3 seconds until the green light starts flashing.
When the light stays solid green, you may inhale off the device and enjoy.
If you’re returning the holder to the pocket charger, carefully align the two pieces and be sure that the IQOS name is facing out and the charging contacts are down.
Close the hatch on your pocket charger.
Should I always charge my pocket holder?
It is unnecessary to continuously charge your pocket holder, so long as it can still provide power to your heating unit. On a full charge, the holder should be able to be used up to 20 times.
How do I charge my IQOS holder with the pocket charger?
When your IQOS device is running low on battery you will need to insert the holder into the charger and press and hold the pocket charger power button to switch on the IQOS device.
How do I maintain my IQOS device?
To ensure the longevity of your device and consistent performance, we recommend that you clean the IQOS holder after 20 HEATSTICKS.
To clean your device, start by removing the cap off the IQOS holder and make sure it is switched off. Next, use your IQOS cleaner to carefully brush and clean the device. You’ll want to remove any residue on the holder and clear out any debris that may have accumulated.
