A new excise tax is coming soon! Starting July 1, 2024, the federal excise tax you’ve already been paying since it came into effect in October 2022 will increase by 12% and a provincial excise tax, following the federal excise tax framework, will apply to all vaping products in Ontario, Quebec, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories.
This boosts the total excise tax you pay for all products stamped after July 1, 2024, by 224% – more than double. For example, you will soon be paying $15.68 tax for a 30 mL bottle of e-liquids instead of $7.

The upcoming excise tax is a significant hike for everyone, but there’s still time for you to stock up at a lower cost on your favourites before the new taxes take effect.

Several provinces, such as British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Saskatchewan, have had a provincial tax on vaping products at different rates for years. This July, Ontario, Quebec, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories will implement a provincial tax on vaping products as part of a coordinated national vaping taxation framework. Other provinces, including Manitoba, New Brunswick, Alberta, and Prince Edward Island are in the process of establishing similar taxes and are expected to adopt the excise tax framework at the provincial level early next year.
We understand this isn’t good news for vapers, but it’s important to us to be transparent about our pricing, and we want to give you as much notice as possible about these tax increases.
